start anywhere
(4 minute read)
Whenever I have something I want (or need) to do and having trouble getting started I channel this mantra-
“Start anywhere”
It originated from “start in a corner” which is what my sister would always tell me when I would call her instead of starting whatever it was I was suppose to be doing and decisively not doing it.
Usually cleaning my closet. Or a room. Or my entire house or garage or office or basement. You get the idea.
I would go in with a flourish declaring, OK! today is the day! Hands on hips!
Look around. Get overwhelmed. Slump my shoulders. Walk out and shut the door.
Call Fran.
She would simply say- Just start in a corner. Don’t look at the whole closet/room/space/world.
Just one small easy little manageable corner. Or drawer. Or box.
We’ve all been there.
So this is me just starting anywhere
Opening up a page, and starting in a corner.
Motivation is great.
Momentum is better.
Habit is the best.
But in order to do any of those things-
You. Need. To. Start.
Like I said - anything worth doing is rarely ever easy.
Whatever it is. Getting healthy, saving money, working out, being more patient, moving, changing,
Learning something new- anything!
But once you’re in motion, you can feel, really feel, the reward of doing something, ANYTHING, that is moving you forward, in the direction that you want to go. And that little voice starts to get a little louder and a little more confident and you get to have a mini dance party to celebrate that win!
Little by little. Corner by corner.
Word by word, post by post.
I am starting my writing habit.
Because, for me, even one post is a step in the right direction. Self high five. Commence mini dance party! Woo!!
