go save yourself

Maybe we need to just lean into the fear

Not feed it.

but-

See it.

Identify it.

Name it.

Then, when it comes around, it won’t paralyze us from realizing our potential.

Cause that’s all it does. Fear keeps us from whatever super power we might possess, makes us small and tells us that we are silly or insignificant. We’ve all been there, right?

It brings us so far from our truth and from being our best.

The worse part is- we are used to it!

We’ve allowed fear to take up residence in our homes and our minds. We’ve allowed it to limit who we can be or what we can have or do or accomplish.

We are not alone. I know this.

But no ones gunna save you, but you.

No ones gunna save me, but me.

We are the only ones who can access the exact brand of freedom that we need.

I think this is where the real work lies. Finding your own brand of freedom.

Of judgement from others (or yourself, which, let’s face it, can be way worse)

Ego

Negativity

Doubt

It’s all there.

But maybe despite all that, you go ahead and do the thing anyway.

The “thing” is something that someone probably tried to teach us all in kindergarten:

To be yourself.

But we stopped trusting that because it felt like a trick.

We are told to be ourselves while simultaneously being told what that’s supposed to look like.

Alas, a conflict is born.

Be yourself, but not like that.

Be you! But not in that shade. Or at that volume. Or shape. Or color.

How do we resolve this?

I bet you can think of someone who does not subscribe to this. (Maybe it’s you! Yay!)

They are unapologetically themselves.

Just the thought of them probably fills you with joy. Maybe you even laugh out loud or smile. And you love them for it, right?

I’m almost certain that this person isn’t someone who simply saunters through life without conflict.

Trauma, loss, grief, addiction, abuse, dysfunction, disease, fear- they are almost always characters in the story.

But this person asked themselves a question and then they made a choice:

Are these things the main character in the story? Or am I?

Let’s ask ourselves better questions.

What serves you? What doesn’t?

What do you want more of? Less of?

What do you like? What don’t you like?

Who do you want to be? How do you want to spend your time? With who? Where?

Can it be that simple?

No, it’s actually hard but here’s the thing:

You are the only one who has these answers, for you.

I am the only one who has these answers, for me.

We need to ask them often and answer them often- and here’s the really hard part- we need to do it honestly!

Yesterday, I had the immense pleasure of attending a women’s networking meet up and I was so energized by the sheer brilliance and passion I encountered.

Everyone had fears, doubts, faults, made mistakes, got lost, fucked up.

They were all doing it anyway- Finding themselves.

One of my favorite conversations was with a woman who took that leap, worked at it like a boss, then was brave enough to recognize that it was no longer serving her and sold that shit and moved on. Damn, that takes some freakin guts!

Now, she is happily working on something that does serve her, (and other people, too) in a positive way and it happens to be something I can totally use more of in my life.

I expressed my need for her services, yes please! Where do I sign up? Please save me!

Her response:

You’re gunna save yourself! I’ll show you how but you gotta do that shit yourself!

BOOM!

I fucking loved that.

Isn’t that what we all need? To do that shit ourselves.

Ask the tough questions and then actually LISTEN to the answers. Then eventually once you cut through all the fear and other characters in our story but not the MAIN characters,

We surrender (yes surrender) to our super power (yes, we ALL have one!)

And be ourselves.

Our super selves!
